David's Diary, also known as ???, was the first evidence players had of a previous Island resident. It was found in the bookshelf of the Abandoned Cabin, and went into detail of the first year of David's stay on the Island, which was also about a full year before the players themselves. Below is the entire contents of the diary.
...I found this book. I'll... write in it. Yesterday, as far as I can recall, when I went to bed... I was home. But now... I'm... somewhere else. A group of islands... but why... and why am I...alone...? Built a house today. Or started to. Noticed a tower in the distance. Going to investigate. No one seems to be there, and I can't get in. Saw some lights in the tower. Someone is definitely there. Thinking of home. Miss my family. God, what is happening? Saw the man in the tower today. Seemed... odd. My home is complete. I'm going to start...painting, or something. Gotta pass the time. Made some rudimentary tools to mine and dig. Creating some necessities. Furnaces and the like. Flowers make for good dye for painting and coloring. Someone came to the cabin today. He actually seemed friendly... but concerned. I tried to ask him why I was here. He wouldn't give me a straight answer. It made me so mad I...I... CANNOT DO THIS ANYMORE. Charlene, please... I love you... wait for me... THE MAN. THE MAN. THE TEST. OH GOD. It's almost been a year since I came here... Why do I bother counting the days? When will this all end? When will those two leave me alone? Where is my friend? Niklos? Where are you? SO ALONE.
